Posture

The Classical Pilates repertoire is comprised of exercises designed to address the whole body so that range and ease of movement, flexibility, and strength is achieved in a balanced way.  However, not anyone can perform pilates exercises correctly without embodying essential movement skills-especially students with specialized needs.  We teach progressive, awareness based movement skills that have practical,  functional application to life, like standing, sitting, climbing stairs, picking up young children / pets or lifting heavy objects pain free.

Students who have scoliosis, osteoporosis, osteoarthritis are not encouraged to flex and never to flex their spine under load. We routinely customize and adjust the repertoire in our specialized groups to suit the unique bodies that we are guiding while upholding the Classical Pilates ethos. Students build strength in a knowledgeable, safe and supportive environment.  While for these students private training is strongly recommended, we welcome everyone and wholeheartedly encourage those with postural concerns into our groups.

The Classical method broadly focuses on uniform development.  We never work specific muscles in general, rather teaching movement as dynamic and interconnected. Classical pilates is proven to provide an excellent vehicle designed to sustain good, pain free posture.
